The church is a congregation of believers: those on earth and those who have already left earthly life, who are living in eternity. The head of the Church is Christ; the Metropolitan is the head of the earthly Church. All his works and responsibilities are to lead people to spiritual salvation. By way of life, he is a monk, a man who has renounced worldly concerns and devoted his life to prayer and God. By office, he is a bishop with the right to equip the spiritual life of many: to consecrate churches and to ordain priests. The bishop, the archbishop, the metropolitan and the patriarch are different degrees of the same office.
