On December 24, on the Sunday of the Holy Forefathers, in the Intercession Cathedral at Rogozhskoye, Metropolitan Korniliy ordained Nikola Mirima (Uganda) as a deacon. Priest Joachim Walusimbi, rector of the Church of Saints Joachim and Anne in Kampala, was elevated to an archpriest on the same day. There are now two deacons in the Old Believer parishes in Uganda; their priestly ordination is planned for the near future.
Nikola (Nicholas) Mirima arrived in Moscow for the III International Old Believer Forum as a member of the delegation from the Old Believer parishes of Uganda. The deacon is 38 years old, he has a higher education in journalism, and works as a social worker. The Mirima couple are raising a daughter and three orphan nieces. Deacon Nikola leads the work of a new primary school opened at an Old Believer church in the capital of Uganda, Kampala.
